Cold Water Safety

Last year, over half the boating fatalities reported by the OPP were in the cold water season (Oct to June). The local water temperatures are now up around 10 deg. Celsius. That may sound warm, considering the surface was frozen a few short weeks ago. However, that is still in hypothermia territory. At this temperature, you would need a 5 mm wetsuit (i.e. almost the thickest suit available) to stay safe in the water. Here are some cold water safety tips from Georgian Bay Association.
